The Mitchell-Mansfield Home
2521 5th Avenue
This California Style Craftsman Bungalow, constructed in 1918, features a cross-dormer pyramidal roof and full wraparound magnificent porch with a side entry. In 1928, John C. Simons and Fay Tobin Simons moved in. They lived next door to John’s brother James Simons and his wife, Lillian Tobin Simons and shared a driveway. The brothers worked together in the grain business. After John’s death in 1944, Fay worked at her sister’s florist shop, Lillian Simons Flowers, which still operates today just off Camp Bowie.
The current owners, Chip and Jill Mansfield, purchased the home in 2015 when they relocated from the Dallas area. Although many renovations to the home occurred in the early 2000s including adding the primary suite to the upstairs, the Mansfields have made significant updates and improvements to the home while mindfully maintaining the Craftsman Bungalow’s architectural history.
